Photo365 – Day 345 – Light Shades

While in B&Q looking for a security light I decided to photograph a few of their light shades. iPhone and Hipstamatic. This was my favourite of the series.

Photo365 – Day 337 – Passage of light

Another passage of light from the sun. This time through one window onto a kitchen cupboard. The light is so contrasty at this time of the year.

Photo365 – Day 336 – Paper cuts

A sheet of A 4 paper cut into five strips and placed on top of another and lit from above left. It’s a bit of an optical illusion. No paper was folded. Each of the five strips were taped at one end and placed on their edge so they were about 1.5in high. Some didn’t touch the base all the way along so let light through underneath. This created subtle tonal changes and the effect you see here.

Photo365 – Day 211 – light shade

I’ve had a busy day so no time for any interesting photography so this is a quick iphone snap of a ceiling light shade shot from below.

Photo365 – Day 120 – alien

I’d just finished a day of decorating and the sun was low in the sky and found it’s path through a window on the door to create a shape on the newly painted wall. I added a shadow of my hand and snapped with the iphone. I played around in Lightroom to give it a more contrasty and colourful result. It looked a bit like an alien on the phone…what do you think?

Photo365 – Day 48 – lamp

This was taken as a quick grab shot before a meeting today. I used a small Fuji point & shoot compact. And used Lightroom to add grain and tone give it a Victorian postcard feel.

Photo365 – Day 39 – shadowplay

A glorious day today, low winter sun streaming through the windows and through some internal patterned door glass. This lead to shadows and light shaped on the wall.

I took a few photos and then started playing around with the shapes, by adjusting the angle of the door so the light rays lengthened. I also noticed that a shadow of the camera was appearing just below the pattern, so I moved it to a lower position and held my hand spanned out in front to make a more interesting shadow. Light was also catching the lens of my reading glasses and threw even more light and shade to the wall.

This is the result of a carefully positioned head, door and hand. My Photo365 project is making me go off in experimental directions that I left behind many years ago and I’m thoroughly enjoying the revitalised abstract creativity. I hope you do too.

Photo365 – Day 18 – Light & Shade

As I walked into the home office this morning I was greeted with a low level sun shining through the blinds. Its the first really sunny morning this year and the feeling was good. After I’d done looking at the previous night’s photos in the gallery and my cruise around the site I decided to take a few shots.

I used the red glass vase that was used fro my photo in front of the venation blinds on day 5 And placed it in front of a radiator. The light and reflections was spectacular so I framed up and took this photo. I went on to shoot close ups of the neck against the wall which gave really intense colour reflections. I also shot through the glass and used a wide aperture to throw the view out of focus for a more surreal set.

I hope my Photo365 series is showing you that you don’t have to go far to be creative…it’s just a little imagination needed to spark up some ideas.
