Thought I’d play around with the wide angle lens and HDR. So here’s a close up self portrait from above using the Pentax 12-24mm at 12mm and a five exposure bracket blended in Photomatix 4.

The good thing about my photo365 project is I will post stuff that I wouldn’t normally post. I tend to post technically good pictures to be viewed by the gallery viewers, but with a blog I’ve pushed in more obscure directions. So you will get to view an alternative side to my photography. It’s this type I did in the early days, working with shadows and light, shapes and patterns.
This is a faint reflection of my in the LCD computer monitor. I noticed that one of the iphone apps enhanced the shadow and gave an almost posterised edge. I experimented with position, angle and framing and ended up with this version, straight out of the camera, using a retro camera app.
I like the noise that’s been added and the exaggerated fringing. My shape is on the right. It reminds me of an album cover of one of the industrial type bands I listened to in the early 80s. Not everyone’s cup of tea I imagine!

Photo365 – Day 87 – The path you take
Taking a photo each day for 365 days is an interesting challenge and some days it’s quite unusual how you get to you photo idea. Today I was looking at a book on self portraits for ePHOTOzine’s book reviews section. I went to find the Amazon link and street price on the Internet. I searched the book title, and ended up pursuing a few sites with self portrait photos. One had a cool shot of a hand firing a cable release with the person in the background. It gave me an idea and as I’m testing a studio flash at the moment an opportunity to take a few more shots with the light. And the result is this.
I’ve intentionally made it dark and hopefully moody. I’ve added a texture layer too. The scratches on my hand and grubby thumbnail are a result of some gardening which has added to the overall feel of the photo. The item I’m holding is an old mechanical cable release.
