Bleaklow

My first trip with the Yorkshire Walking Group who arrange trips on Meet Up. The route was from Woodhead Tunnel, on theĀ  Longdendale Trail past the Woodhead Reservoir then up to Clough Edge, on the Pennine Way to The Wain Stones (Kissing Stones) and Bleaklow Head, coming back down Middle Black Clough to the start.

Yorkshire Lavender

On the way to Whitby I spotted a sign for Yorkshire Lavender (just north of York) so had a quick look around. It’s fee to enter and a wide variety of plants for sale including mints in all flavours.

San Parteo walk

I walked from the villa in Speloncato up the hill following the stream through quite over grown woodland path up to the D63 and then due to closed sections of the walk kept on the road until I reached the main walkers path at Bocca di Bataglia and began the walk to San Parteo taking in the Mont Tolu first.

I went with one banana and a half full bottle of water…and soon wished id had more provisions.

The path was really clear at first but soon the markings disappeared, and in many places so did the path. Much of the route was reliant on people’s small cairns placed haphazardly along the way.

San Parteo

The climb/scramble up San Parteo was hard…i was tired as I’d not done any walking for three weeks due to a damaged calf. I had to rest several times on the way up, but the view from the top was great.

San Parteo

Highlight along the way, trying to rejoin the path from the D63 road I followed a track along through a field of gorse getting my legs scratched along the way. It didnt seem to be going anywhere so after about 15 mins I turned and headed back to the road. At this point I heard a bird of prey, looked up and saw one circling me. He slowly came closer as he made a third circle. On the fifth circle he was only about 15-20 foot above me…dinner? Thankfully he decided I was too scrawny and soared off. I did have chance to photograph him.

Derwent Edge Walk

A 9 hour stroll with good friend Jane Carter covering 31km. We stopped at Old Horns for lunch. I had Cajun Chicken (quite dry) with side order of Onion Rings (huge plate, very greasy!) Then over to Derwent Edge and dropped back down to Strines by Danes Dyke back to Bradfield and Nags Head for a pint of Stout. On the way I licked a cow’s arse

Climbing Puig Tomir

Buffet breakfast in the Sanctuary included cold meats, cheese, bread, cereals jam and croissants plus orange juice and coffee all for 8 Euro. After this I set off on the Volta a La Moleta De Binifaldo trail and detoured to Puig Tomir. It was cold and cloudy start and the mountain top had a thin covering of snow.

On the way up I felt uneasy on my feet as my super grip shoes (read shite-grip) were slipping on the well worn rock. Part of the climb included using chain aid. At the top I used the cairns to help my navigate the snow covered path.

When I reached the summit and trig point the wind was icy and strong making it difficult to stand up. The views were spectacular though.

The climb down was quite scary as I slipped several times.
