Museum of Club Culture

I went over to Hull this weekend for a visit to The Deep and was pleasantly surprised to find a Folk Festival was being held. After wandering around the busy back streets I stumbled upon a building housing the Museum of Club Culture and an artist selling T-shirts with a gallery of his illustrations. Turned out to artist Mark Wigan who gained recognition in the early 1980’s for his illustrations for NME and iD magazine. I really liked the design of one of the T-Shirts so parted with a tenner and before leaving asked if he’d pose for a photo with the T-Shirt.

While in the gallery I noticed a selection of magazine clippings of David Bowie from 70s magazines. Many I recognised as I was a huge fan / collector from 73 to 79 so had most of the material on display. The magazine clippings will be displayed alongside a collection of unseen photos by Peter Hardy taken at the Hammersmith Odeon in the Ziggy exhibition that will run each weekend until 24 October.

Doddington Hall Sculpture Exhibition

I visited Doddington Hall today to look at the sculpture exhibition that was arranged around the grounds. It comprised 350 pieces from 70 artists and was curated by David Waghorne. Very interesting and good for photography.

Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Headed off up to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park for some photography and it rained!

The weather was dismal – drab grey sky and rain.

First stop was the YSP cafe for home cooked chips and a hummus & olive wrap, followed by scones with cream & jam…yummy!

I used my infrared converted Pentax *ist D and a 28mm f/2.8 lens for today’s photography. No tripod, flash or filters. I was lucky enough to catch the back end of the exhibition by Spanish artist Jaume Plensa. A few of his statues were still on display in the grounds, sadly I missed the indoor exhibition as that closed on the 22nd.

Leica Prague

anton_corbijn_werkLeica UK invited editors to Prague. We stopped at the Linch Hotel Paris and ate in the Linch Lvi Dvur restaurant.

One of the events was an evening at the exhibition WERK by Anton Corbijn. He was a photography hero of mine. I got to meet him and thought he was arrogant and wished I’d not met him.

PMA 2000 – Las Vegas Canon event

papillon_helicopter_over_vegascirque_du_soleil_bellagioThe 2000 PMA,  Las Vegas was a great excursion Canon took us  on a Helicoptor ride over Las Vegas Strip followed by Dinner at Osteria Del Circo, Bellagio Hotel and then into the Cirque Du Soleil “O show” at Bellagio Hotel. What an experience. Myself and Mike Elliott were falling asleep in the show which was spectacular, but food and wine followed by comfy seats in a darkened room don’t go well together!

PMA 1999 – Las Vegas

The 1998 PMA was held in Las Vegas, United States. I decided to take my wife and spends a few days tagged on at the end in LasVegas and San Fransisco in the company of William Cheung. We flew by United Airlines 919 from Heathrow to Washington Dulles and on to Las Vegas. I was in Seat 21H

After the exhibition the three of us went on a few excursions including the Star Trek Experience and Vegas Tower and then to Pier 41 and Alcatraz.

We hired push bikes and cycled to The Golden Gate Bridge

Will bought a Hammock at Pier 41
