Das Rad and Modulator ESP

I witnessed Das Rad’s first outing (comprising Steve Dinsdale, Martin Archer and Nick Robinson)…a fusion of treated guitar, wind instruments and drums with a smattering of keyboards. They performed a set at Bishops House this evening…Not bad at all.

Support was an excellent electronic feast of loops and modulation by Jez Creek playing as Modulator ESP.

Pic of Modulator ESP thanks to Jan Todd (I didnt take a cameras)

New Model Soldier gig

New Model Soldier played possibly their last gig as singer David Kurley says farewell due to upcoming migration to Portugal. The band supported David’s other act, Babyshambles. Good set from both followed by a night of excellent DJ model soldier

After the gig I bumped into Jennie and Josh. Richard Hawley was in the background behind my ear

Nadine Shah live

Nadine Shah live at The Harley

Nadine Shah live at the Harley Hotel & Bar, Glossop Road Sheffield…supported by David Roch and Canal Boat.

A small venue with average lighting , but great beer (and so it seems food) And the three acts were excellent. Particularly liked Cloud Boat, who each used Roland 404SX samplers to deliver some amazing sounds to blend with their interesting guitar playing.

Good review of Nadine Shah here.

She offered me a glass of red wine…very kind

Photo365 – Day 9 – Grade II Listed Buildings

Having caught the bug to photograph old buildings I headed off to my old haunt of Sheffield today to take a look at one of the areas that still has it’s roots back in the days of cutlery of the mid to late 1800s. The area around Milton Street / Egerton Road is steeped in history and the grade II listed buildings that still stand appear to be in their original state – now housing workshops and offices.

Some of the sections of the Beehive Works have been vandalised with graffiti and broken glass is scattered along the narrow Egerton Road. While tragic the scars bring a sense of beauty to the eye of the photographer.

I spent a good hour or so wandering around the small but amply photograph-able area.

In this shot I included a patch of the eroded tarmac that gives us a glimpse of the original cobbled stones below.

Häagen-Dazs ad – music by Richard Hawley

For Richard Hawley London Roundhouse 2007those who watched X-Factor tonight and managed to stick it through the ads each break you may have enjoyed the melodic track accompanying the new  Häagen-Dazs advert. It happens to be from one of my favourite relaxing musicians Richard Hawley. The track titled Open Up Your Door can be heard on last fm.  It’s not, in my opinion, his strongest track, but it suits the ad perfectly. Now if you want a really good Richard Hawley track try this one: The Sun Refused to Shine – shear genius!

Oh, and he’s from my home town of Sheffield…all the best people came from the Steel City 😉
